Acclaim for Lisa Patterson's new disc ROAM, began last year with a 4 star review from the Vancouver Province. Her sophomore release, ROAM is distributed in Canada by Festival Distribution and in the Benelux by Rough Trade / BMG. Produced by Juno nominated engineer Adam Messinger along with Lisa, the recording sessions were a successful marriage of the regular band playing live-off-the floor with the use of innovative virtual studio technology. ROAM features a special appearances by Chennai based South Asian vocalist Bonnie Chakraborty, Middle Eastern & Indian Flutist Ernie Tollar and Tabla whiz Santosh Naidu. American socialist writer Noam Chomsky makes a notable appearance on the final track via spoken word splices. Lisa writes, sings, produces, plays piano and alto sax and is an artist driven by wanderlust and curiousity. On both stage and disc, lisa's style is to dig in emotionally with her earthy voice, keep the lyrics on the poetic side and tease with vocal embellishments. Her presence is that of your best friend's sister trustworthy, but with some secrets up her sleeve. Lisa grew up on the west coast of Canada by the sea where her love affair with rainy afternoons at her piano began. And late at night when she was supposed to be sleeping she'd be listening to the radio under her pillow. Lisa's young artistic imagination was further stimulated by international travel with her pilot father, inspiring poetry and stories. She studied Classical piano and Highland dancing and by high school Lisa was blowing alto sax in an award winning Jazz Band. Later, at York University Lisa studied South Indian voice & rhythm with Trichy Sankaran, Contemporary Improvisation and Composition with Casey Sokol and Jazz Composition with David Mott. With mournful violins and circle dances coming from the Romanian Gypsies on her mom's side and the drone of bagpipes and fishermen's songs from the Celtic Scots on her Dad's, Lisa was surrounded by diversity from a young age. Lisa has commercially released 2 videos, 1 EP and 2 CDs, which have been on Top Ten radio and television playlists in Canada, U.S. and Europe. She has performed in the Middle East, India, Holland, Mexico, the U.S., and across Canada. Her compositions have appeared in 2 award winning feature films, 2 short films, and 2 documentaries. Lisa has been featured in live interviews and performances on CBC national and regional radio, CBC and CTV national television and received recognition from the Canada Council, Ontario Arts Council, Bravo!FACT, Toronto Arts Council FACTOR, and VideoFACT. Her solo career was launched in 1997 after recording and touring across North America as a sideperson with original Canadian artists. Also active as a producer/engineer Lisa has worked with Jazz artist Rita di Ghent, world fusionists Toronto Tabla Ensemble and First Nation group Spirit Wind.
